Have you noticed that the Alps have gotten taller? Probably not, but you have probably heard that they are losing their glaciers at a very rapid pace. This is going to have a whole list of consequences, but one of the oddest is the fact that their loss is actually going to make the mountains “rebound” and get a bit taller.

How does this work? Well, just imagine how heavy a small block of ice is, and then use this to envision the vast amount of weight that centuries of glaciers place atop the many mountain peaks. Because of global warming, however, these glaciers are rapidly receding and melting away at a speed that is disconcerting at best. Once they begin melting, they also begin reducing the amount of downward pressure atop each of the mountains. This triggers the surface of the Earth to rebound or to assume its more natural shape, and this forces the mountains to attain a higher overall height.

Does this have any environmental significance? It means that the bases of the…

Coal burning plants are guilty for around 40 percent of the greenhouse gases being created each year. Clearly a huge amount of progress could be made where global warming and climate change is concerned if something could be done with the gases emitted.

The most promising solution is called “carbon capture”, and the most widely accepted approach to this would be to use chemical filters to capture the carbon as it leaves the coal burning plants and then to inject the compressed carbon into saline aquifers deep underground.

There is currently no existing system for doing this, and there is also a huge amount of scientific debate about the safety and practicality of such a decision. For instance, the thick rock could hold the carbon indefinitely, but any leaks could lead to the quick creation of carbolic acid that would poison ground water and the surrounding area. There are also the risks of poisonous gases and explosions at collection sites, and a serious amount of expense…

Anyone living in the western regions of the United States knows that forest fire season is no laughing matter. This is especially true for those who have lived there for many years because it is painfully obvious that the nature of the season has changed, and become more out of control.

Why is this occurring? It all has to do with global warming and the climate change it has triggered. Just consider, in the west are many enormous mountain ranges and huge areas of land at very high altitudes. Because the pattern of global warming is causing temperatures to rise substantially, it is causing glaciers in the mountains to melt off rapidly too. This leaves water levels low, but the early arrival of warmer weather also means that snow melt occurs earlier as well. This adds up to a period of drought almost every year because the weather does not match the available water supplies. This dryness is what is leading to more and more forest fires.

Just consider, the long pattern of weather in…

We are all aware of the fact that global warming is leading to climate change. We can see this in different weather patterns and all kinds of changes in the sea levels. We also know that many natural habitats are at serious risk as well. What many people don’t stop to consider are the less obvious risks of a “big thaw”. For example, the loss of glaciers means increasing global temperatures due to the loss of reflection from the brilliant white ice and snow. There is also the risk of permafrost being lost as well.

Just imagine if the permanently frozen soils beneath the polar or Arctic regions should thaw…it would cause a huge amount of shifting and alteration across somewhat expansive spaces. Need an example? Imagine a plastic soda bottle full of water…if you put this into a freezer you can see that it swells to the point of bursting as the water solidifies. This is a good illustration of what occurs in the massive areas of land known as permafrost too. They have swollen…

The popularity of green chemicals has been increasing as more people become aware of harmful side effects of toxic chemicals. However, many people continue to use artificial detergents. It is still a common belief that green chemicals are not as powerful as their toxic counterparts are. Fortunately, technology has vastly improved these green cleaning chemicals. Modern green cleaning products are now as powerful as or even more powerful than synthetic detergents.

How Green Products Are Different

Green chemicals are derived from plants. Unlike synthetic detergents, they do not contain hazardous artificial ingredients. Toxic chemicals often do not biodegrade completely, leaving toxic residue on the surface and in the environment for months or even years after use. While these ingredients can be harmful to the surface, they are also harmful to those who encounter the surface and the environment these chemicals are exposed to.

On the other hand, the ingredients of genuine…

Traditional methods of graffiti removal involve repainting the surface or using thinners to dissolve the paint. Both methods have their limitations. Repainting is costly and can look unattractive if the repainted area does not match the other parts of the wall. Thinners dissolve not only graffiti but also paint and any finishing layer on the surface. The quickest and most effective method of graffiti removal is using special graffiti-removal detergents and pressure washers from reputable suppliers such as Daimer®.

Graffiti removal detergents sold on the market usually contain a number of toxic and harmful chemicals. They emit noxious fumes and may cause chemical burns if not handled properly. In contrast, Daimer®’s Eco-Green® Graffiti Remover is made of natural ingredients. These food-grade, biodegradable components react chemically with paint, grease, marker, or pen. The molecular-level reaction helps remove the graffiti by lifting paint particles to the surface…

There are many types of green chemicals available now, including car washes, floor care products, carpet cleaners, and more. How are these different from artificial detergents? A genuine green product is sourced from plants and is not toxic or harmful to the environment, user, or the surface being cleaned. While it is well known that many commercial detergents contain toxic, hazardous ingredients, there are many imitation green products that do not have any difference from these synthetic detergents. Therefore, one must pay close attention to composition before purchasing green cleaners.

Genuine green chemicals are often more efficient than chemical solutions, and because of their plant based solution, are safer. That is, such green products clean just as well as artificial detergents and do not leave behind harmful toxic residues that can potentially harm the environment.

How Do They Work
Genuine green chemicals are made of extracts from plants and vegetables. These products do not…

Are you someone who is considered “crafty”? Do you find yourself making things that others buy in stores? Are you also someone who likes to reuse, reduce, and recycle? If so, this is a project for you!

Instead of donating your old or broken VHS and audio cassette tapes to the nearest charity store, why not use the tapes as a form of yarn or knitting material instead? Both types of tape have a dull or matte side as well as a glossy or shinier one. A savvy needlework enthusiast could easily control the results of their work and make a very modern item from this unique material.

What could be made? It is fairly simple to craft large squares that could serve as remarkably durable totes for summertime use, or even for glimmering clutches to use for a night on the town. Some crafters have also made cosmetic bags, tea holders, and tissue containers from this long-wearing material too.

Not only is it possibly one of the greenest crafting projects you will ever do (considering that you…

Did you know that food experts actually state that there are some fruits and vegetables that can be enjoyed liberally whether they are grown organically or not? While most would say to “go for organic” whenever the budget allows, they would also say that there are a handful of foods to either avoid or only eat when grown organically.

An agency called the Environmental Working Group keeps a list of foods that they call the “dirty dozen” but which actually covers 47 different fruits and vegetables. They use data from the USDA and FDA to create a composite score which indicates the “worst to the best” where pesticide exposure is concerned.

For example, their very worst rated food is the peach which comes with a 100% score. This means that even after washing and peeling a traditionally grown peach the consumer will face a 100% risk of exposure to at least ten different harmful toxins. Additionally, the remaining eleven foods include apples, sweet bell peppers, celery,…

Looking at your neighbor’s brand new set of solar panels is probably making you quite jealous. After all, they are now getting their hot water or some electricity entirely for free. The problem for you is that you cannot afford such a massive upgrade, even if it will reach the “payback” point in only a few years’ time.

That’s alright because you can enjoy a bunch of low-cost upgrades immediately, and these will come together to make your home greener than ever before. While green homes are environmentally friendly, it is important to remember that they tend to be financially friendly as well because they are geared at efficiency.

Take the device known as the Chilipepper as an example. This is a “micro processor controlled pump” that is installed directly under a sink and when it is activated it pulls hot water directly to the tap indicated. This means no more wasting water by running it until it becomes hot, and it also means no more wasted electricity or gas in order…
