Jenny Clad, Executive Director of The Climate Project (TCP), said today that the grassroots organization founded by former Vice President Al Gore will become more proactive in the effort to combat the climate crisis. Clad delivered remarks in a video webcast to supporters worldwide.

“I’m excited to announce that The Climate Project is entering into Phase Two of its evolution. Our organization is ready to embark on a new era of advocacy and activism,” said Clad.

The Climate Project will be hosting a North American Summit for its existing presenters May 14-16 in Nashville to launch a major movement by TCP, The Alliance for Climate Protection, and Al Gore to start building a formidable grassroots advocacy force to persuade policy makers to pass significant climate legislation this year.

This month on the Green Moms’ carnival the discussion of “I Believe” is being hosted on Jennifer’s The Smart Mama’s website.  This topic is intended to ask all of us to dig deep, and express our beliefs. Of course, I believe in family, friendship, and sense of self, but when it comes to being green, it can be an uphill battle of the naysayers who say that being green is too expensive.

So, what do I believe? Green makes cents.  Before you pooh-pooh me, realize being green does not mean you have to live in an extravagant green home as you might see on television, have the newest green tech toys, or follow Hollywood’s latest trend.  I am talking real dollar to dollar savings based on good, honest thriftiness and back to nature living of our grandparents.  Follow along and start adding up the dough.

Recently I wrote about Preserve’s agreement with Clorox to  collect and re-use the Brita filters.  Preserve manufactures household products out of recycled plastics such as toothbrushes, razors, plates, and BPA free kitchen products.  In addition to accepting, Brita filters, they are also accepting other #5  plastics as well such as yogurt cups through their Gimme 5 program.

Ordinarily, most counties do not accept #5 plastic for recycling. This includes yogurt cups, hummus containers, and other food containers.   With Preserve’s Gimme 5 program, you can drop off your #5’s, Brita filters, and Preserve products at a participating Whole Foods or The Park Slope Food Coop.

Not near a participating Whole Foods?  Then you can mail your #5’s and Brita filters to Preserve.  All Preserve products can be sent back to the company for a second life via a postage paid envelope.  See instructions on how to send these products back to Preserve.
