I recently learned how to correctly dispose of our kitchen grease or cooking oil waste. It should not be flushed down the sink with hot water, where it can clog up pipes and sewers.
One should collect kitchen grease in a metal can or jar and then bring it to a disposal site. [...]

The Hawaii Ecotourism Association (HEA), an association of conscientious tour operators and responsible travel supporters, today announced Hawaiian Sailing Canoe as 2009’s Ecotour Operator of the year award winner.

Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Adventures, owned by Liz and Sage Spaulding, embodies the best of ecotourism in Hawaii. Their unique ecotour is based squarely on perpetuating a critical component of the Hawaiian culture, the Hawaiian Sailing Canoe. By nature, the business is sustainable on an energy level since the canoe is powered only by wind and human energy, but the owners go an extra mile and utilize a biodiesel vehicle for any peripheral on land transport associated with the business. As part of their community outreach, Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Adventures donates tours to youths in the community so they can experience firsthand the cultural heritage of Hawaii, providing them with a depth of cultural understanding and a sense of place.

Each year, HEA recognizes a member…

Is their a fever pitch to this message?  You betcha.  Our unborn children are being exposed to countless chemicals in the womb due to our industrial society.  Previously, I wrote about the Enviromental Working Group’s cord blood tests that reveals over 200 toxicans in our newborns.  I encourage you to read this article. It is unsettling and it should be.

In Congress right now, there is a historic bill, the Kid-Safe Chemical Act, that will change the world as we know it.  Do not be mislead by the title.  This bill is not just for kids.  It is for everyone who will or has come in contact with chemicals in products.  Unborn children are the most vulnerable because they can’t say to no to their mother’s use of a product.  They are completely helpless.

What this law proposes is to prevent the rubber stamping approval of  chemicals,  and will require proof that they are safe for the public.   New Jersey’s US Senator Frank R. Lautenberg, an 85 year old senate veteran…

Solar-powered handset and green package_01

LG Electronics announced this month that they will be unveiling their new mobile phone complete with a solar battery cover at the  Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona, Spain.

“Using renewable solar energy in the mobile handset is an example of our ongoing efforts to help create a safer, cleaner environment for our customers,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “LG continues to research and invest in creating products that not only provide a better experience for consumers, but also encourage an environmentally responsible lifestyle,” according to the Company’s recent press release.

So, how do you harness the sun?  Simply pointing the phone’s solar panel, which is embedded onto the battery cover  towards the sun, and the panel will convert solar energy into electricity without needing to be plugged in.  If you expose the panel to ten minutes of sun, then your phone will gain enough power…

dog treats

Check out GT’s dog treat giveaway!

Much to my children’s dismay, we don’t own a dog. I always blamed it on my oldest son’s asthma. “We don’t need hair everywhere since it will make #1 Son’s asthma worse,” was my standard line. Then, I would suggest another dog such as a poodle (always the lawyer) to which they would shutter and say that a poodle is not a real dog. Translated this means a poodle is not a MAN’s dog. (Remember, I have four boys.) I had a poodle growing up and loved him.

The real reason we don’t have a dog is I did not want a fifth child to take care of. My kids promised until the cows came home that they would take care of a dog, but we all know how that story ends. Don’t we?

When I received an email from K-9 Confections about their organic and natural dog treats, I was intrigued and wondered who would create organic dog treats? Given my friends’ bonds with their pets,  it is definitely not out of the ordinary.

GristTV  has produced this very cute but not for little ones’ eyes video about why some of your own adult toys  (including your vinyl girlfriend) may be hazardous to your health. (Rated PG or R).  Get rid of her since she leaches nasty chemicals.  Believe me, no one will be the wiser that your “friend” is gone.  Promise, I won’t say a word.

Before Valentine’s Day, get yourself  and/or your significant other a healthier toy option.   You want to play another day.  Right?

Thinking of green options for V-Day?  Check out my last year’s article, “10 Green Tips for a Red Hot Valentine’s Day.” If consumption is not your thing, consider a Simplier Romantic Green Night for Valentine’s Day.

Last but not least, check out my chocolate organic article.  Have an excuse to indulge in chocolate!  In any event, have a happy Valentine’s Day.

Planning or do anything green for V-day?  Let us know.  Keep it clean, people.  Not too much information, if you know what I mean.

Watch CBS Videos Online

I normally don’t write such strong titles as the one I wrote for Gardasil.  However, when you hear multiple reports of young girls dying or no longer able to resume their normal lives because of a blasted vaccine that is making a pharmacerical company rich, it makes me very angry. Watch the above video and you will get as heated as I am right now.  Okay, let me take a breath and explain what all the fuss is about.

Gardasil is a vaccine created by Merck given to young women to help prevent cervical cancer. It is intended to prevent 4 different human papillavirus strains from causing cervical cancer.  Apparently, according to Merck, these four strains account for 70% of cervical cancer cases. Women and girls from ages 9-28 are give three rounds of vaccinations. If you contract another type of cervical cancer causing virus, this vaccine will not help you.

You may have seen the  above Gardasil commerical.  The one  the says ”I want to be one…

Christopher Moline , the Residential Group Manager of  Alexandria Carpet One, put his money where his mouth was.  He had heard that Forbo’s Marmoleum was so safe that you could eat it.   So, what did Chris do? You guessed it.  He ate a small piece of the flooring.  Check out the above  short video and his blog.

Marmoleum is made out of  linseed oil, rosins, wood flour, jute and ecologically responsible, organic pigments.  For more details as to what these particular ingredients are comprised of, see here.  According to the Company, Marmoleum has inherent anti-bactericidal and anti-static properties.

I think of Marmoleum as funky lineoleum with wonderful patterns and colors.  Believe me, it ain’t your grandma’s lineoleum.  Check out their photo gallery.  Forbo offers both Marmoleum and Marmoleum Click (floating floor.)

So, what did the flooring product taste like ? I emailed Chris, and he replied, “it tasted like cardboard.” And “he has a strong…
