Not long ago, I was listening to a radio interview while driving home. The woman being interviewed had just returned to the United States after spending a few weeks vacationing with her husband in Central America.I listened while she told of the fabulous luxury hotels, white sand beaches and fine restaurants she and her husband had so recently enjoyed. They had a gloriously wonderful time but

Many energy efficient home designs include radiant floor heat. More efficient than forced-air heating or baseboard heat, radiant heat delivers several benefits to homeowners: less allergens (circulated through the home via the heat systems ductwork) meaning better air quality, reduced electricity usage and fossil fuel usage, and evenly distributed heat at floor levels with little energy loss which means greater comfort and less drafts.

Two types of radiant heat are available: 1) in-floor (most popular); and 2) wall or ceiling radiant panels.

1. In-floor radiant heat:
In-floor radiant heat is by far the most common kind of radiant systems used. There are three types of radiant floor systems: air, electric, and hot water.

Air-heated radiant floors:
Air is not a good conductor; therefore, radiant air heating systems are typically not cost effective in homes and are seldom installed. They can be combined with solar air heating systems; however they would need to be combined with a secondary… (Read the rest of this article at the following article source link for the full story)

Baby products should not contain toxic ingredients, according to common sense as well as 40 + organizations lead by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) co-founded Campaign for Safe Cosmetics.

Just last week, the Campaign sent a letter to Johnson and Johnson asking that its products made for children don’t contain hidden carcinogenic contaminants 1,4-dioxane and formaldehyde.

No More Toxic Tub
The action comes after a recent Campaign-sponsored No More Toxic Tub report that found those two contaminants in over 60 percent of the 48 products tested. Both 1,4-dioxane and formaldehyde are known carcinogens and formaldehyde can also trigger skin rashes. Like other toxic ingredients often found in your shampoo, lotion and deodorant, they are not limited in personal care products. In addition, since they are contaminants and not ingredients, they are not disclosed on product labels.

In commemoration of this year’s World Environment Day, photographers Nigel Barker (America’ss Next Top Model) and Luo Hong (Luo Hong Foundation in China), are pairing up for a photographic exhibition at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

The exhibit, titled "Shared Destiny: Wildlife from Africa to the Arctic", showcases work by both photographers that celebrates the planet’s wildlife and addresses human practices that affect global biodiversity and environmental sustainability.

In line with the Your Planet Needs You theme, Barker and Luo’s work makes a profound statement about the humbling beauty of life and serves as an inspiring call to action for all global citizens to protect our precious environment. The exhibit aims to promote awareness on human-exploitation of nature, irresponsible dumping, and unsustainable hunting.

The exhibit makes its debut at a ceremony on Thursday, June 4, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Northeast Gallery of the UN’s Visitor’s Lobby, and…

With the global economy facing the worst meltdown in decades, travelers are becoming more and more conscious of eco-options and practices.

According to a survey included in the Element Eco-Travel Index, a new index of green travel habits among frequent travelers commissioned by Starwoord’s Element Hotels, nearly 78% of respondents are mindful of energy and water conservation. However, over 41% insist that their “vigilance” is “due to the economy, while just 28% claim it’s “due to the environment.”

Eco-conscious habits tend to slide while on the road

The Element Eco-Travel Index reveals that while almost half of frequent travelers claim to “always” recycle glass and plastic at home, that number slides to 36% while traveling.  As for water conservation, 34% limit water consumption at home, while only 20% follow suit while traveling. Only about one-third of travelers surveyed consider themselves “outstanding” in their personal “green programs,” with most feeling…

Three conservation groups are joining forces in the fight for endangered wildlife with the filing of a new lawsuit against the U.S. government.

Groups Oceana, The Center for Biological Diversity and the Turtle Island Restoration Network have filed a suit against the National Marine Fisheries Service and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service today over violations of the Endangered Species Act - citing failure to meet the 12-month legal deadline for responding to three separate petitions focusing on two sea turtle species in U.S. waters off the East and West coasts.

“This is a classic example of the Fisheries Service dragging its feet,” said David Allison, senior campaign director at Oceana. “Sea turtles can’t continue to wait for these essential protections. More sea turtles will be caught and killed with each passing day, pushing them closer to extinction.”

Documentation of the actual lawsuit can be viewed here.
