Hi, my name is Lisa and I spend more time reading labels than ballots. There, I said it. Why do I spend so much time reading labels? A bit of introspection tells me that there are 3 main reasons:

  1. To prevent toxic chemicals from affecting my children’s health,
  2. To support companies that value the environment and the people affected because I want my money to do good, not harm, and frankly,
  3. To keep my money out of the hands of companies who are trashing the environment and communities where they work - and profiting all the while. I really don’t want them to think I like what they’re doing.

Can we change the world, one purchase at a time?
I don’t hunt down ‘greener’ products specifically to force the market to serve me better or to change public policy, but I do believe a little in what Diane MacEachern coined my Big Green Purse.

I am American, after all, and aren’t we trained to shop our way to change? Trained to be satisfied by an indirect,…

Airline passengers have just about had enough of the corporate abuses of big-air’s mishandling of the flying experience. From runway delays to overheated cabins, a new Senate bill supported by FlyersRights.org is proposing to change everything we know about the agonies of flying and fight for airline passenger rights.

Vintage planes are like vintage automobiles, they have a certain class and distinct style about them. Some people like them, and some people love them. I personally love all the polished aluminum, patterned rivets and sleek forms of the aircraft from the past- back when you used to wear a suit on the plane and [...]

Plantable seed paper

When my son was being bar mitzvahed, I was determined to green the event as much as possible.  One of my goals was no paper, whether it was recycled content or not.   The invitation was a web page created on Myevent.com.  Inexpensive, creative and definitely a big hit.

When it came to the thank you notes I was stumped.  Was it proper to send out email thank you notes?  I knew I could create a beautiful  thank you note on the website Ping which could be emailed to his guests.  So, I twittered all of my twitter followers and asked them.  Even the die-hard greenies said no to the email thank you unless it was close personal friends. I even wrote about it on Green Talk hoping the consensus would say yes.  Everyone basically told me to do the right thing. Handwritten.
