The home design process is continuing for our clients in southern NH.

One of our clients’ priorities is having enough space to entertain about 20 people four times a year. To add more living / entertaining space in the floor plan, the dining table was reduced in size and moved to replace the informal banquette. While the table is still large enough to seat extended family for holiday meals, the enlarged open living area is better suited toward hosting cocktail parties.

The dormer bays in the living and dining areas were changed to soften the interior lines. The kitchen was reconfigured slightly to take advantage of the added space and to streamline traffic flow.

If you want to see a very cool combination of solid science, smart advocacy and consumer empowerment, check out HealthyStuff.org, a project of our friends at The Ecology Center in Ann Arbor.

They tested and rated over 5,000 consumer items for an array of toxic metals and other nasty stuff, basing their ratings on toxicity, persistence and tendency to build up in people and the environment.

This toxic stuff is worth researching as it has been linked to reproductive problems, developmental and learning disabilities, liver toxicity and cancer.

You can find the nice and the nasty in a bunch of categories - children’s products, stuff for pets, cars, clothing, jewelry, and toys.

Check it out.

aircutter

I received in my inbox  a PR notice about AirCut, a hair trimmer with a vacuum bag.  To be honest, I did not really read the entire email because I wasn’t sure why this item would be considered green.  Many times I receive PR releases about products that just plain upset me because the person sending it has no idea about my website. Hello PR People, the name of the blog, Green Talk.  Does that give you   a clue?  Being the polite person that I am, I respond by explaining that I am a green blogger, as in the environmental kind, not just someone who likes the color green.

I received a response that in fact this particular PR person did read my blog and thought his product had a green angle.   See AirCut haircutter  can not only save you money since you don’t have to run to the barber shop every time you need a hair cut, but  it reduces your carbon footprint somewhat since you aren’t driving as much.   You still are using electricity to power the unit but it is probably…
