One of our most recent clients were not interested in building a timber frame home, but were drawn to the openness and creativity timber houses afford. At the same time, they did not require full architectural services, only limited drafting services, but wanted to work with an architect to pull their design ideas together and make them work with their land’s difficult terrain and elevation issues. We were happy to assist them by providing drafting services for their new custom home.

The result is an attractive, welcoming river front home with water views that meets their family needs – four bedrooms, plenty of storage, and space to entertain guests in both formal and informal social gatherings.

The full basement has 1832 square feet of living space as well as a two-car garage. Entry to the house from the garage is accessed through a mudroom that has two large benches and a generous closet for coats. A kitchenette with counter seating is a welcome addition to the open family… (Read the rest of this article at the following article source link for the full story)

Premiering in 2010, a new primetime docu-series from the good green folks over at Planet Green turns the camera on two city dwellers who trade in their urban lifestyle to head for farmland hills.

Beekman Farm
, which is the current title of the production (though it could change mid-course), explores the many struggles and benefits that come from one city couple – one former Martha Stewart Vice President, Brent Ridge, and a drag-queen-turned-ad-exec and New York Times bestselling author, Josh Kilmer-Purcell – who decide to man an estate and farm in upstate New York.

The Planet Green channel, which launched in June 2008 to become the center for people who want to understand how humans impact the planet and how to live a more environmentally lifestyle, has already greenlit the 10 episode series scheduled to premiere in late Spring 2010.

The couple’s goal? To revive the farm and create a new organic brand “Beekman 1802″. With a humorous yet eye-opening edge, the series…

Sunflower Plant

Lately I have been on twitter asking all of my garden followers can I eat sunflower, broccoli, or cauliflower leaves?  All three plants produce amazing green leaves and it seems Mother Nature created them for a reason.  Usually people just put the green leaves in the compost pail.  Twitter Garden Pals, Shibaguyz, (”2 guyz lovin’ the life we’ve made for ourselves here in Seattle. Stop by our corner of the Universe and say hey!”) told me to prepare them like I would other greens. Hmm.  This could be interesting.

One of my other Twitter garden pals, Roy Stahl, creator of Plangarden.com software, told me he just throws his sunflower leaves in the compost.  So, I thought, what the heck?   I would experiment. What is the worse that can happen? I hate the leaves?

As you can see from the picture above, the leaves of my giant sunflower are quite large. The stalk must have been six to seven feet tall.  Large enough perhaps to create table mats if I was crafty.  (The leaves…
