Solar Energy09 Oct 2009 09:01 am

As the new Solar Energy Marketing and Analysis Intern for Astralux Power Systems, I came into this position as a new graduate of Colorado State University with a degree in Business Marketing and a minor in Media Studies. As you may notice, there is nothing in that title that is even slightly technical, and no where in my education did I learn extensively about solar power. Two weeks ago I knew barely anything about solar, other than it is green, and that is currently the most common word in the English language. However, in these past two weeks I have been able to get a basic understanding of solar power, how it works, the industry itself, the great rebates, and how easy it is. Learning about this has been riveting and exciting for me, so I want to share that knowledge. If you have a technical background, don’t judge, if not, here is my best attempt at explaining solar power in basic terms that anyone can understand, and my way to share my enthusiasm of solar with you.

Let’s…

To a lot of people, it might sound about as worrisome as walking under a ladder or not forwarding an email chain letter, but really, what is the deal with cell phone radiation? Is it something you should actually be concerned about?

timthumb.php.jpeg

We were curious — though we did figure that the radiation was probably more dangerous than deleting a chain letter. So we launched a 10-month investigation into the latest science of cell phone radiation. The result was our recently released report, Cell Phone Radiation Science Review, and a brand-new cell phone database.

Given the huge response to this report’s release, turns out we weren’t the only ones confused and concerned about cell phone radiation.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be breaking down the report piece by piece - there’s a lot of great information in there, and not many of us have the time to sit down and read through it all.

Today we kick off our blog series by looking at the science itself.

What is cell phone radiation…

While the global economy continues to remain dismal, business-makers and legislators are touting the beginning of the economy’s “upswing” – citing that the worst is over. However, it looks like the hospitality industry still has some convincing to do – luring travelers with heavily discounted rates and promotions that only a few months ago would have seemed nearly impossible.

According to online-booking website Hotels.com, world hotel prices have dropped significantly, with an average of a 17% decrease since last year. At the very top of this bell curve is Moscow, leading the way with a 33% decrease, while New York has seen one of the smallest changes with only a 6% decrease since 2008.

The Hotels.com Hotel Price Index (HPI) suggests that there has never been a better time to travel. Interestingly enough, for travelers out of Europe, prices actually have risen to top in the Middle East – as much as 20% in Tel Aviv, by 15% in Istanbul and by 15% in Abu Dhabi.

“Despite…
