These ceramic paper cups have been a big hit recently, made popular by the DCI "I am not a paper cup" brand that sells for about $11/ea on Amazon.com. Now that they're available with custom imprinting for the promotional market, we're stoked to add them to Ecoswag.com:

Ecoswag Item EXP-2201

There are so many reasons to love these new ceramic paper cups from an environmental perspective - they're reusable, they cut down on litter, they save trees and they keep paper to-go cups out of the waste stream. Many people notice that paper cups impart an odd flavor to hot beverages like coffee or tea, so drinking them from a ceramic cup actually tastes better too!

I'm really drawn to the iconic look and tongue-in-cheek design of this mug, which reminds me of a piece of modern art & makes a subtle statement about our disposable culture. As a swag idea, it's brilliant. The spare design puts the emphasis on your logo or message, and as a giveaway it's hip enough to create buzz…

I noticed in the Post this weekend that a new bicycle center opened at Union Station on Friday. The center, called Bikestation Washington D.C., has 150 enclosed bike racks and 20 outdoor racks. It also features a changing room, lockers, bike repair, bike rental, retail sales and free air for your tires. Here’s the Post’s news brief about the bike center from Sunday’s paper; here’s the preview

Last month, you saw the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics’ first video about cosmetics safety, What’s going on with toxic chemicals in cosmetics?

This month, they delve a little deeper into the issue, taking a closer look at the lack of cosmetics safety regulations in the US, and what people (in Boston) think about it all.

Hint: Most use a lot of products, aren’t reading labels (not that they’re complete or easy to understand, anyway), and do think the government and industry should DO something.

Wondering how you can choose safer products?
Read our Healthy Home Tip on Choosing Better Body Care Products (it’s part of a series - sign up to get them in your inbox here). The video specifically mentions fragrance, an under-regulated ingredient that we suggest you avoid.

And of course, you can check out Skin Deep, EWG’s Cosmetics Database, to see how your products rank and find safer ones.

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics is a coalition of nonprofits, co-founded by EWG, that…

Colorado-based resort chain Vail Resorts is renaming its environmental and social responsible travel program to “Vail Resorts ECHO” – a grouping of the company’s efforts aimed at eco-conservation and engagement.

Previously known as “Vail Resorts 360,” ECHO encompasses the company’s long-standing efforts in volunteerism, environmental stewardship and charitable contributions.

“As part of our almost year-long process in putting together our recently announced Hayman Restoration Partnership, we learned more about the goals and ideals of our entire corporate responsibility efforts,” said Rob Katz, chairman and CEO for Vail Resorts. “We realized that these efforts are aimed at mitigating our ‘footprint’ on the and on our communities. But even more important, it’s the impact our actions and behavior can have with our guests and our communities as we look to stake out leadership positions on important issues.”

You may recall just a few days ago a post…

The recent tsunami crisis in Samoa – while small in comparison to Southeast Asia’s 2005 disaster – is still a heartbreaking, devastating trauma that continues to play itself out as time goes on. Last week, I read one story about a mother who lost her 6-year old daughter to the waves; her tiny hand slipped from her fingers and she was forced to watch her child get swept out to sea, only to be found dead days later.

These stories keep coming, and anyone with an ounce of humanity in their souls cannot help but feel torn apart for these families – these communities – half a world away.

While the Samoan government is working tirelessly to provide health care, food, water and basic household items to evacuees, the communities themselves are in dire need for both financial and “in-kind” contributions. All over the world, donations are coming from church organizations, businesses, schools and individuals.

Assistance has been received from the National University of Samoa, Church of…

Costco is keeping up with the green wave.  They have a Eco Round 67-Gallon Wooden Rain Barrel for $199.99 shipped. A lot more expensive than using a trash can but certainly a lot more elegant.
It has a connector that attachs to your rain gutter’s downspout. A heavy duty bladder inside actually holds the water.  It [...]
