Solar Energy28 Oct 2009 09:01 am

It’s not! As advancements are made daily in the solar power world, it can become very confusing to the average homeowner as to how to go solar, the steps to be taken, and why it is important. Solar power is no longer and seen as being the eyesore on the weird neighbor’s roof, it is becoming a basic necessity for every home and building in the world, and just as easily obtainable. Although I cannot speak for every solar company out there, I can at least explain what Astralux offers and the first steps to take to check it out for your self.

The first step in considering solar power is a free consultation. To schedule one, you would simply call our company, in which we will transfer you to one of our highly professional and trained salesmen. One of these gentlemen will speak with you regarding what you are looking for in a system, how much of your energy costs you would like it to cover, and investigate your roof so that they can take measurements and look for any obstructions…

With one case of kid flu and another serious case of coughing and sneezing in the house this week, our family is hand washing like never before. Parents included.

Makes sense, of course, since hand washing is one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs.

Hand washing serves more than one purpose.
It’s also an effective — but often overlooked — way to prevent the transfer of toxic chemicals from your hands to your mouth, especially for children. Scientists have found that children actually ingest more chemicals off their hands than from mouthing toxic products directly, such as arsenic from playing on older wooden swing sets or fire retardants found on some electronics.

Of course, we’re not writing with all good news.

Ironically, some soaps contain chemicals you should avoid, so you should choose safer soaps because who wants to wash off chemicals with more chemicals? Here are a few tips to find a safer soap that works for you:

With a little over one month to go before the UN summit on Climate Change in Copenhagen, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has outlined a handful of benchmarks that will determine the success of this international gathering of the minds.

Ban, in an opinion piece in the New York Times, suggests that every country – developed and developing – must do all it can to slash emissions from all sources, including deforestation and shipping.

“A successful deal must strengthen the world’s ability to cope with an already changing ,” Mr. Ban said, stressing that “support for adaptation is not only an ethical imperative; it is a smart investment in a more stable, secure world.”

According to Ban, proper funding to allow poorer countries to transition to a low-carbon economy is absolutely crucial, while all involved must agree on an equitable global governance structure.

“All countries must have a voice in how resources are deployed and managed,” he said. “That is how trust will be… (Read the rest of this article at the following article source link for the full story)

The popular American carrier has officially unveiled a prototype model for a “green plane” – an Boeing 737-700 that combines fuel efficiency, environmentally responsible products, customer comfort, and reduced waste and weight.

Good business sense

According the Southwest, environmental decisions and business practices can only benefit the business.

“Southwest is committed to continuing to lead the industry in emissions reductions through fuel efficiency,” said Gary Kelly, Southwest’s Chairman, President, and CEO. “Efficiency in fuel consumption benefits our Company as well as the environment, and this has been part of our business model since the beginning. As we look to the future, we know climate change remains of vital importance to our industry, our Company, and our Customers, so Southwest works hard every day in every area to be a responsible steward of the environment.”

All of the elements being tested on this Green Plane, when combined, will equate to a weight savings of…
