As we are all aware, there are products out there that are simply bad for us to use.  They are bad for the environment and bad for your health as well.  They shouldn’t even be on the market, but since they are, you as the consumer need to make the right choices and avoid them as much as possible.

This is not only your health and the health of your family at stake.  These products are absolutely dangerous and detrimental to the environment we are all living in.

Because knowledge is power, here are 10 things you should absolutely never buy again:

1.  Styrofoam

Styrofoam seems to be such a useful material but it is one of our worse pollutants.  It does not break down well, it is expensive to recycle, and it is a dangerous contaminate in our water. Research has proven that the carcinogenic and toxic chemicals found in Styrofoam even seep into our food.  When we put that food into our body, the chemicals remain tucked away inside where they will eventually do irreversible…

Green Building16 Dec 2009 09:00 pm

Our Carriage House Plans have been revised to better suit our clients’ use of the future garage apartment. Because they plan to live in the carriage house while their home is being built, the couple wanted to make sure they would have plenty of space for entertaining while maintaining a private master bedroom.

The sitting area was actually reduced in the design development, but the floor plan remains open and welcoming. The kitchen was redesigned with an island to keep it open and free-flowing while maintaining working space.

A mini-office was added and also a large desk included in the living area for this busy couple who are able to work wherever they go. A wood stove will come in handy for heating the carriage house on weekends the couple is able to go skiing.

Check out our other garage apartment plans and timber homes on our website!

I found an relatively new lamp in a trash pile one day.  As you can see, it is quite attractive except for its glaring silver duct taped cord. Heck, one man’s trash is another’s treasure.  In my case, a lamp for a needed  reading area.

Normally, I would have scooped it up and ran to the nearest lamp shop to fix it.  Last winter, I took a home improvement course at a local college where I learned to solder plumbing, frame a wall,  tile a floor, wire a three way switch, and use a miter saw to cut molding. I was in heaven.  Unfortunately, each session was a different lesson so I became knowledgeable in all building aspects but a master in none. (Didn’t just hear a collective sign of relief  from the building industry that I wasn’t going to hang up my builder’s sign?)

My husband suggested that we fix the lamp.  Hesitantly, I agreed since fixing electrical items still scares me.  I always envision myself looking like the cartoon character who put his finger in the…

Departing from a crowd of over 12,000 employees and guests at Paine Field in Everett, Washington, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner marks the beginning of a flight test program that will see six airplanes flying nearly around the clock and around the globe, with the airplane’s first delivery scheduled for fourth quarter 2010.

The technologically-advanced 787 uses 20 percent less fuel than today’s airplanes of comparable size, while providing airlines with up to 45 percent more cargo revenue capacity and present passengers with innovations that include a new interior environment with cleaner air, larger windows, more stowage space, improved lighting and other passenger-preferred conveniences.

Another industry breakthrough on the aircraft is its lightweight quiet nacelle and thrust reverser system including its actuation system. A deeper-than-normal lip skin at the front of the nacelle greatly reduces drag and improves fuel efficiency. A one-piece acoustic inner liner significantly reduces…

The World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC) new three-year, $5 million multi-platform global partnership with CNBC, National Geographic Channel, and Sky News, a European news network, will allow for commercial air time, online marketing, and direct engagement in a global campaign to help promote awareness of the economic and social importance of the travel and tourism industry worldwide.

“WTTC is extremely pleased to have both CNBC and National Geographic Channel as our broadcast partners,” said Jean-Claude Baumgarten, president and CEO of WTTC. “The combined reach of both channels enables us to raise awareness of travel and tourism’s contribution to national economies around the world.

“Together they’ll provide year-round exposure for WTTC and highly-targeted marketing campaigns to their own audiences, which will drive discussion and debate to raise awareness of the importance of travel and tourism as one of the world’s largest industries, employing 220 million people…
