Arras People produces a very good newsletter (just released today) which this month lists its seven predictions for Project Management in 2010.

Amongst the seven predictions is this one:

  • Momentum for Green-Related Change Will Remain Stagnant

Although green issues seem to have risen in public consciousness in recent years, the central entity that can provide the forceful impetus for adaptation to global warming strategy remains yet to be found. Some of us surmise that currently there exists a gap around training, which in turn can lead to uncertainty as to solidifying a sound carbon footprint with each project undertaken. Who is the leader, then, that will face the issues head-on and ensure guidelines and standards for sustainable project carbon footprint governance? An individual? Government? A governing body? One thing remains certain: without someone or thing to pr ovide the impetus, talk about green initiative will remain cheap and toothless.

2009 was an incredible and adventurous year for solar energy in Colorado, the nation, and the world. Here were the highlights:

1) Despite the recession, the amount of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems sold and installed in Colorado increased by over 90%.

2) Over $50 million in solar energy rebates were distributed statewide.

3) The small category (under 10kW in size) saw the greatest increase, going from 6.02 megawatts (MW) installed in 2008 to 12.5MW in 2009.

4) A European solar module supply gut led to solar system material prices dropping by as much as 50%…

“More public information can only be positive.” So says Renee Sharp, director of EWG’s California office, in response to news that San Francisco might become the first U.S. city to require retailers to label cell phones with information on their radiation levels.

It’s what we’ve been saying all along, and it’s why EWG created a searchable database of cell phone radiation levels. We think consumers have a right to information that will help them choose the phone with the lowest potential radiation emissions.

While the research isn’t settled on just how dangerous cell phone radiation is to your health, there’s enough troubling evidence that we suggest you take precautions to reduce your exposure.

Radiation emissions vary
A few weeks ago we talked about SAR values - the measure of how much radiation a phone emits. The gist is that how much radiation a…

3555658791_5a6dfacaf7_m.jpgWith its fourth and most ambitious edition of its National Report on Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals, released today, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) casts the issue of pollution in people in sharp focus.

The CDC has detected 212 contaminants in the blood and urine of thousands of people tested from 1999-2004, the most extensive survey of the American body burden ever published by the federal government.

CDC’s testing focuses on adults and children age 6 and older, leaving EWG and other environmental health groups and academic scientists to investigate the extent to which pollutants were invading the womb.

Last week, EWG released its second cord blood study, reporting detections of up to 232 contaminants in the cord blood of 10 minority infants born between 2007 and 2008. EWG’s study was the first to find the plastic ingredient bisphenol A (BPA), an endocrine-disrupting chemical, in American…

The holiday are here!  The media has reported that the average person gains 7 to 10 pounds between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Ouch.  Big dinners, more alcohol, more snacks, more finger foods, tempting desserts, and appetizers. How can we work to combat those pounds?
Exercise and keep going. Work out longer or just start to exercise.  Shoot [...]

How does Travelocity, one of the most popular online travel sites around, decipher which hotels are “green” and, if so, just how green?

Turns out, it doesn’t.

Instead, the web-giant has teamed up with Green Key Global, creators of the Green Key Eco-Rating Program (’Green Key’), to recognize and rate “green” hotels and resorts.

Travelocity will include Green Key members in its Green Hotels Directory, while said hotels will also be tagged with an “Eco Friendly Hotel” symbol within Travelocity’s hotel shopping path.

Green Key, with its roots in Canada for over ten years, launched in the U.S. in September of 2009. It is the first program of its kind to audit, rank and certify hotels and resorts based on their commitment to sustainable “green” operations.

Travel for Good

A recent study by the U.S. Travel Association and Ypartnership shows that nearly 60%of consumers consider a hotel’s environmental practices when making a booking decision, while a smaller subset of that group is willing…

Gekko, a new concept in hotel search, has unveiled a brand new version of its website that allows a visitor to find hotels that match their travel preference, style and tastes while incorporating a new address book feature to make it easy to share recommendations with friends.

Based in London, Gekko was founded in 2008 by Dino Van Es, a successful entrepreneur who also started Zecco, a popular online share trading community in the US.

Making it easy to find the right place

According to a new report published earlier this year by market research experts Forrester showed that only one in three online bookers are satisfied with the way travel websites present travel choices.

The new Gekko.com takes the pain out of finding the right hotel at the best price by instantly giving users recommendations that are spot on.

Users simply need to enter a favorite hotel and Gekko shows them similar hotels in the world’s top destinations. They can then book their chosen hotel at a guaranteed best…
