Electronic Accessory Waste

I collect accessory computer waste via my GreenDisk trash can at my children’s school.  Okay, I admit it.   In fact, truth be told, I have been obsessively collecting  electronic accessory waste for 3 1/2 years which includes DVDs, CDs, VHS, and their plastic cases  and other assorted goodies.  (Read here what GreenDisk recycles.)

Now that you know what kind of lunatic I am.  Are you wondering why?  There is an obvious method to my madness.  At least I think so.

So why did this  fascination become a hobby?  I got turned onto collecting computer accessories because I was the recipient of umpteen copies of AOL CD disks.  Do you remember when you were constantly getting those AOL try me disks in the mail?  So, what did you think people did with them?

Some crafty people actually made home made goodies to give to their loved ones.  (You know, those beautiful coasters for your drinks?)  The vast majority did the old pitch in the trash can routine.

I just thought…

Since the U.S. Food & Drug Administration expressed “some concern” about BPA last week (’bout time), more and more people are wondering whether they should be concerned about it, how they’re exposed, and how to avoid it?

Of course, you can check our Tips to Avoid BPA here on Enviroblog, but why not sit back, relax, and hear it straight from EWG’s Director of Research, Jane Houlihan? You’ll get the picture in a mere 4 minutes:

In a new partnership with EcoGreenHotel, the company is expanding its green lodging offerings to travelers in Jackson, Mississippi as well as throughout Tennessee, the Carolinas, Texas, Alabama and as far north as Illinois.

EcoGreenHotel, a consultancy that guides hoteliers through the journey of developing and/or maintaining a sustainable operation or project, is performing an an in-depth sustainability analysis of thirteen of Kana’s properties, with the dual goals of protecting the environment and boosting profits at the same time.

The first to undergo the analysis was the Embassy Suites Jackson-North/Ridgeland in Jackson, Mississippi, managed by Kammie Smith. The property has implemented a green team made up of both line level and managerial associates and led by sales manager Meghan Elder.

EcoGreenHotel is coordinating the entire project and working with the green team and vendors to ensure proper and timely installation with the least interference in daily operations. The…

Website: http://www.earthpm.com/2010/01/gummy-treats-save-the-world/

gummylizzardI was reading about fishing the other day ( beside project management fly fishing another of my passions) that the soft plastic baits used by fisherman are harming fish, especially our native Maine brook trout and salmon populations.  It seems that these baits, sometimes pulled off hooks or lost overboard, are readily ingested by the fish. Because they are not digestible, they tend hang around in the fish’s stomach for quite a while before being regurgitated.  This causes the fish to stop eating.  It has been found that the fish fish lose weight and become unhealthy when this happens.  My suggestion is gummy treats for those fishermen who like to fish with these soft plastic lures.  The treats come in a variety of shapes and colors, from lizards and worms to fish shaped.  I believe that they can provide enough enticing movement to attract fish, and have the added benefit that if the fish are not biting, they are one of the few baits that fisherman would want to snack on!  It…
