EMFacts has a nice flyer with health tips concerning Wireless networks or Wi-fi. With the advents of Wi-fi, Cell phone signals, Alarm systems, Wireless utility meters, consumers are getting bombarded with more and more radiation.

Some common sense tips they recommend:

  • Do not sit in close proximity to a wireless router (keep    it    in    an unoccupied    room    if    possible)
  • Turn off any wireless devices    at    night    time    while    you    sleep    –    as    these    devices    emit    microwaves    at    all    times    –    not    just    when    the    device    is    transmitting    data
  • Avoid using a wireless    laptop on your lap for extended    periods    of time
  • Take note of the short-term health    effects – if you notice any symptoms
  • Try to remove or reduce   your exposure to  the wireless devices

A new 403-room Embassy Suites, managed by Windsor Management Services, will be opening in December 2010, directly across from the Denver Convention Center.

Constructed by WPM Construction, the new hotel will have 403 rooms and 17 function rooms, totaling 21,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space, and features unique design elements such as a 13-story glass curtain “Sky Lobby/Atrium” starting on the hotel’s fourth floor.

The hotel’s amenities include plans for an additional leased restaurant, retail space, a state-of-the-art fitness facility, spa, indoor pool, business center and full valet service/onsite parking. The hotel is planned to be a LEED-certified building.

“We are very excited to have the Embassy Suites flag flying in downtown Denver again,” said Rachel Benedick, vice president of sales & services for Visit Denver, the city’s convention & visitors bureau. “This hotel is in a prime location and our convention groups will be very excited…

Anybody with a rudimentary understanding of electronics, especially the person that habitually tinkers with and “fixes” the various appliances at home will know how regularly solder is used and needed, even more so for those in the industry.
Up till just recently though, solder wasn’t exactly a milestone of technological achievement. Rather, the basic premise behind [...]

Last week I quite literally found myself in the middle of one of my favorite arguments, climate change.
Let me set the stage for you. We were at a public talk on astronomy; the lecture was going well, proving to be both informative and engaging, when the speaker threw out a passing comment questioning the legitimacy [...]

Many of us are familiar with the LEED rating system from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), which is a third party green building rating system for commercial and residential buildings. The LEED rating system has been adopted by the U.S. government and is used with all new construction and major renovation of federal [...]

Cable railings with cable in-fill and metal railing frames are often made mostly of recycled materials if the frames are fabricated from aluminum, steel, or stainless steel. Wood-framed railings are also sustainable material.

The fittings used to mount and tension the cables in the railing frame are almost always made from stainless steel, which generally will have a recycled content of 65% or more. Once installed, the cable requires little maintenance and lasts for many years, often outlasting the railing frames to which they are attached.

They also have other advantages: cable railings offer a very modern, high-tech look that does not obstruct views, but rather provide an open feeling in confined spaces. Some products offer advanced mounting and tensioning hardware that can be concealed inside railing posts. Best of all, cable railings offer virtually unlimited design flexibility and can be used in any commercial or residential architecture.

One of our custom timber homes is… (Read the rest of this article at the following article source link for the full story)

Stale Lays Potato Chips

How many of you watch the Capital One commercials , especially the maroders or hooligans ones?  At the end of the commercial, they ask, “what’s in your wallet?”  Well, I am asking you the same thing about your pantry or medicine cabinet.   Well, the Capital One gang visited my house this year.  They pillaged, destroyed, and wretched my pantry.  They threw duplicates of the same products that I had on the shelves.  Then they mixed up everything in the pantry, so I can’t find anything.  And finally to make matters worse,  they even put expired food on the shelves. I heard them laughing as they ran off , and  yelled at me, “what’s in your pantry?

I was screwed.

Yah, I only  wish that I could blame them instead of me.  It is so much easier to blame than take responsibility for my ridiculous out of control pantry.  In, my article, “Confessions of a Green Food Waster,” I stood up and said that this green person (me) was a shameless food waster and…

brokenrecord

According to the AWEA (American Wind Energy Association), the U.S. wind industry broke all previous records by installing nearly 10,000 megawatts (MW) of new generating capacity in 2009 (enough to serve over 2.4 million homes), but still lags in manufacturing, the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) said today in its Q4 report. These new projects place wind power neck and neck with natural gas as the leading source of new electricity generation for the country.  Together, the two sources account for about 80% of the new capacity added in the country last year.

But is this enough?

“The U.S. wind energy industry shattered all installation records in 2009, chalking up the Recovery Act as a historic success in creating jobs, avoiding carbon, and protecting consumers,” said AWEA CEO Denise Bode. “But U.S. wind turbine manufacturing – the canary in the mine — is down compared to last year’s levels, and needs long-term policy certainty and market pull in order…
