With spring just around the corner I started thinking about what kind of events companies will be planning. Immediately my mind started wandering towards outdoor events. Because I am an Oregonian I do love and embrace the rainy season to the best of my ability, however each year I eagerly anticipate the warmer and sunnier weather that comes with spring.
So what outdoor events will your company be participating in this spring? How about golf events?
Having your company participate in community or charity golf events where you can sponsor a hole provides a wonderful platform to display your company’s logo in a variety of ways. Think about it… golf balls, tees and pouches, hats, bag tags, divot repair tools, marking pens, and even the golf bag itself can be custom printed with a logo or artwork. Plus, players or people there to watch are going to get hungry at some point, so to add to the list of creative marketing ideas there are custom printed snack bags, forks,…

Do you drive a company car? Does your firm have a fleet of vehicles, for passengers, freight or delivery? If the answer is yes, check out this short video, ‘Fleet Efficiency: The Movie,’ from Environmental Defense Fund. It shows you how some simple steps can save you $700 per vehicle (per year, I’m guessing); in the process, you’ll also reduce carbon emissions that contribute to climate change. If

Last week the Washington Post featured a great article by Christopher Gearon, a Derwood, Md., homeowner who told the story of how he had a geothermal heating and cooling system installed for his house. The surprise for me was how cost-effective it turned out to be, thanks to federal and county tax credits and a state grant. The geothermal heat-pump system (to heat/cool his 4,400-square-foot home)
Last year we took a close look at 100s of bottled water labels to see how good (or bad) manufacturers are at sharing important information with consumers - like my mother, who buys it by the box (me = biting tongue; gotta pick your battles, right?).
When you buy water to drink (crazy as that even sounds), you should know where it comes from, how it’s purified and what’s left in it. But too often, bottled water labels have more silly (and misleading) sales lingo than useful information that you might want to make an informed decision about the water you drink.
Which is exactly why we like to look closely at bottled water labels.
Send us your labels so we can continue our research
EWG wants to see if bottled water companies have improved since we looked at them in 2009, or if they’re still conveniently skipping the facts with dreamy phrases like “purified by equatorial winds,” “pure as the driven snow,” and (get this one) “resonates with the energy and frequency of…

Is Vitamin Water super water or a virtual soda like drink in disguise? Vitamin Water recently made the news. Center for Science in the Public Interest sued Coca Cola who owns Vitamin water over deceptive and unsubstantiated claims on its VitaminWater line of beverages.
“Coke markets VitaminWater as a healthful alternative to soda by labeling its several flavors with such health buzz words as “defense,” “rescue,” “energy,” and “endurance.” The company makes a wide range of dramatic claims, including that its drinks variously reduce the risk of chronic disease, reduce the risk of eye disease, promote healthy joints, and support optimal immune function.”
“In fact, according to CSPI nutritionists, the 33 grams of sugar in each bottle of VitaminWater do more to promote obesity, diabetes, and other health problems than the vitamins in the drinks do to perform the advertised benefits listed on the bottles.”
Vitamin Water may provide do harm than good because…

With responsible, “green” travel growing at a rapid rate, those within the industry are increasingly looking for ways to redefine the travel booking experience for would-be travelers seeking the “higher road” of travel options.
While a few players have already instituted “green ratings” across the board – measuring factors such as energy usage and commitment to cultural conservation – one tour company is taking an entirely unique approach.
Journeys Within, a California-based tour company, just launched its new “Hotel Karma Ratings” – a ratings system that measures properties based on their efforts toward a better planet.
The rating system goes from “Nirvana,” the highest rating for hotels that “support sustainable travel in a consistent manner” to “Non-Believers,” which are described as “often lovely properties…that aren’t yet seeing the light and supporting their communities or the environment.”
In between are “Enlightened” and…
